1 killed, 2 others seriously injured in 3-car head-on collision

The driver of a car seen weaving through traffic before colliding head-on with two other vehicles was killed in the crash. Police say they do not yet know what caused the accident.

The crash which occured during the morning commute on Nov. 26 shut down Indian School Road between 59th and 63rd Avenues. Phoenix police say the 32-year-old driver of a Buick was seen driving erratically before crossing the center line into oncoming traffic and crashing head-on with a Subaru and a Hyundai. The driver of the Buick was killed in the collision, and two drivers of the cars he collided with were transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The drivers of all three vehicles involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts. A passenger in the Hyundai was not wearing a seatbelt and was injured when she impacted the car's windshield. It is not yet known whether the driver of the Buick was impaired.

Persons who are involved in car crashes are likely to sustain blunt force traumatic head, brain and spine injuries, particularly if they are unrestrained inside the car at the time of impact. Many will be left with permanent mental and physical disabilities and may suffer partial or complete paralysis. Having lost the ability to live independently and support themselves, these sufferers will need to ensure that they have the economic resources necessary to maintain a functional standard of living.

Arizona civil law provides legal procedures through which a person injured in a car crash may pursue compensation for their losses. Recoverable economic damages may include actual and future expenses for medical and life assistance care and loss of the ability to earn a living. A personal injury attorney could help to calculate the degree of their losses and pursue recovery through the civil legal process.
