NTSB investigates devastating truck-bus collision

If you've watched the news recently, you've probably seen coverage of the devastating crash involving a tour bus and a FedEx truck in California. The accident has taken the lives of 10 people, including both drivers, five students and three chaperones. The bus, which was reportedly occupied by 48 people, was carrying high school students to a college recruitment event.

The investigation of the fiery crash is expected to go on for months. According to police, the FedEx semi-truck crossed the interstate median into oncoming traffic. The truck hit a car and then collided with the bus. Luckily, the car driver appears not to have been injured, but 31 others were taken to numerous hospitals to be treated for various injuries. One of the adults on the bus suffered burn injuries all over his body, and he died at a hospital in Sacramento.

Along with state and local authorities, the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash. Authorities are undoubtedly looking into whether there is any evidence that the truck driver might have passed out for some reason, or whether another collision may have sent the semi across the median, or whether there was a defective part or a mechanical failure.

All of these matters will have to be closely scrutinized as the injured victims and grieving families search for answers. Such a tragedy turns worlds upside down, and the painful effects can ripple for a long time through families and communities.

Tucson residents will undoubtedly want to follow this story as more details surface.
