Road safety tips for Memorial Day weekend

It may have snuck up on a number of people, given the recent stories about wildfires and blockbuster movie openings, but the Memorial Day weekend holiday is upon us. With that, many people will take this time to travel to their favorite destinations. The American Automobile Association (AAA) expects more people to travel this year because a long, dreary winter, combined with more disposable income will lead people to make this weekend a vacation time.

While the winter blues may not apply to Arizonians, the desire to get to lakes and campgrounds is still quite strong. Because of this, it is expected that more people than usual will be on the road. With that, drivers will have to use additional caution. Through this post we will provide some helpful tips so that drivers can have a safe holiday weekend.

Give yourself plenty of time – When drivers feel rushed, or get frustrated because of heavy traffic, this can lead to aggressive driving. This type of driving can increase the chances of being in an accident. As such, giving yourself enough time to get to your destination should calm your nerves and prevent aggressive driving.

Put the phone down – While we haven’t talked about this in quite some time, the desire to take selfies while driving may increase during the holiday weekend as people want to share their experiences with others. With the possibility of accidents increasing this weekend, it is best to put the phone down and focus on the road.

Don’t drive drunk – Just like the public service announcements, “buzzed driving is drunk driving.” So use a designated driver.
