Allegedly impaired driver leaves four badly injured

As Arizona’s population continues to surge, our streets and highways get more congested and more dangerous to drive. Of course, what makes matters even worse is when someone decides to try to navigate crowded roads after drinking alcohol.

Drinking and driving is one of the worst mistakes a person can make, and it’s often compounded by errors made in traffic, as when a driver picks the wrong ramp leading onto an interstate. We recently saw an example of this when a wrong-way, allegedly impaired driver caused two car accidents on an interstate that left four people badly injured.

Two of the injured in the accident near downtown Phoenix were listed in critical condition, officials said. The other pair was listed in serious but stable condition.

An Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesperson said officials became aware of a wrong-way driver about 10:15 p.m. and officers were alerted. One officer tried to ram the wrong-way vehicle to stop it, but the male driver, reportedly in his 60s, avoided the police car.

Unfortunately, moments later the wrong-way driver struck a car in the side, injuring both the driver and passenger. The wrong-way vehicle then slammed head-on into a second car, delivering critical injuries to both the wrong-way driver and the 30-year-old woman behind the wheel of the other car.

The DPS spokesperson said the man will likely be arrested on criminal charges.

Accident injury victims in similar situations often decide to press for a higher level of justice, however. With the help of an experienced personal injury attorney, they pursue compensation for medical costs, lost wages and more.
