Whiplash is a common injury following a rear-end collision

Injuries suffered in a car accident can be wide-ranging. Some people may experience minor injuries that do not require medical treatment, while the injuries suffered by others can be more serious -- if not fatal. A rear-end collision is probably the most common form of car accident seen in Arizona and across the nation. While some of these incidents may have fatal outcomes, the vast majority of rear-end collisions result in other injuries -- such as whiplash.

Whiplash is an injury most individuals probably do not think much about, as aches and pains following a car accident are often considered to be less severe. However, whiplash can actually result in a number of serious health issues. Unfortunately, the seriousness of these aches and pains may not be immediately apparent.

Whiplash occurs when the head is quickly forced backward then forward after the rear of an automobile is struck. This motion can cause injuries to the head, neck and back. The force of impact can make a difference in the severity of any injuries experienced. Common symptoms of whiplash include:

  • Headaches
  • Neck pain or stiffness
  • Impaired vision
  • Back, hip and/or jaw pain

While these and other symptoms of whiplash may not seem very significant at first, they can cause long-term pain and suffering and can have an impact on one's home and work life. For anyone who has been involved in a rear-end collision and experienced any adverse side effects as a result, seeking medical treatment as soon as possible is certainly advisable. Arizona residents may utilize legal remedies to seek compensation for any physical, financial and psychological damages sustained as a result of such an accident. While taking this step may seem difficult, if litigation is successful, any monetary compensation awarded can provide accident victims with much needed financial relief.
