Driver thought responsible for fatal car crash allegedly impaired

A man was arrested following an accident in Arizona that killed one individual and left another person in critical condition. The car crash occurred on Jan. 18 in the Tempe area. Police believe that impairment was a factor in this case.

According to a local report, the driver of a luxury car -- a 30-year-old male -- was allegedly speeding on University Drive when his vehicle struck another automobile. Both vehicles were heading westbound at the time of the crash. Two men were in the vehicle that was hit. One died as a result of his injuries, and the other was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. The extent of his injuries is unknown.

The individual believed responsible for this incident and a passenger in his car were both unharmed. The passenger is said to have fled the scene shortly after the crash. The driver is facing a number of criminal charges including manslaughter, aggravated assault and endangerment. It has not been reported if a court date has been scheduled in order to address these charges.

Impaired driving is certainly a major concern in Arizona and elsewhere. As was the case with this accident, it is not uncommon for a DUI-related car crash to end in a fatality. When such incidents do occur, the damages suffered, whether physical, emotional and/or financial, can be significant. In accordance with state laws, the surviving family members of the deceased and the surviving victim may be entitled to seek compensation for the losses they have endured as a result of the incident.
