Arizona car accident: Increase seen in number of fatal collisions

In looking back on 2015 statistics for Arizona, it has been found that the number of fatal auto collisions showed an increase compared to previous year. When a car accident results in fatality, the victim's surviving family members may be left struggling in a variety of ways. Thankfully, according to state laws, those who have lost loved ones due to the negligence of others may have legal recourse.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, motor vehicle accidents in the state claimed a total of 895 lives in 2015. That is said to be 121 more deaths than the previous year. However, it is still lower than the all time high of 1,301 fatalities which was reached in 2006.

These numbers do tend to fluctuate over the years. However authorities continue to investigate the causes of auto accidents in order to see where improvements might be made in educating the public. It has been reported that, of the 895 deaths in 2015: approximately 300 victims were not wearing seat belts or were not using child safety seats; 300 were killed in collisions where speed was a factor; and 295 died in crashes involving alcohol.

No matter how a fatal car accident occurs, if a loved one's death can be attributed to the negligence of another party, surviving family members may be entitled to seek compensation for their losses. This can be done through filing a wrongful death claim in an Arizona civil court. While taking legal action cannot replace the life that has been taken, it may -- if successful -- help family members achieve monetary relief, a sense of justice served and maybe even a bit of closure.
