In a car crash with a drowsy driver?

There are a lot of things that Arizona drivers do when driving automobiles that make them a threat to themselves and the general public. The dangers of distracted or drunk driving, particularly, are real and often reported. But what about drowsy driving? When a car crash occurs because one of the drivers was operating his or her vehicle while too tired to do so, he or she may be held liable for any damages sustained by the victim.

Drowsy driving is said to be just as bad as driving while intoxicated. It is the cause of numerous car accidents every year. It does not take missing hours and hours of sleep to be a danger when behind the wheel. In fact, only missing an hour or two of sleep is said to double one's chances of being involved in an auto accident the following day.

Why does a lack of sleep increase one's odd of being involved in an accident? When one is tired, his or her reaction time is slower and long lapses in attention may occur. This means that they are less likely to be fully aware of what is going on around them and be able to react accordingly.

When drivers get tired, they should get off the road, walk around, take a nap or do some sort of activity to help wake themselves up before continuing on their journeys. Unfortunately, most drowsy drivers do not take the time to do any of this, and accidents often happen as a result. The victim of a car crash caused by a distracted driver or -- in the event of fatality -- his or her surviving family members may be entitled to seek compensation for any losses suffered as a result of the incident. An experienced attorney can file and litigate the appropriate legal claims in an Arizona civil court in an effort to seek the maximum amount in damages for the client.
