Arizona car accident: the dangers of distraction

When out on the road, it is not uncommon to see someone doing something while driving that takes that individual's attention from the most important task at hand. People can be seen grooming, texting or talking on their phones, eating or even just paying more attention to passengers rather than their surroundings. Whether in Arizona or elsewhere, any distraction is considered a major safety concern and can result in a car accident.

There are an unfortunate number of crashes that occur throughout the year that can be attributed to driver distraction. In 2013, on a national scale, well over 400,000 people were injured in these types of accidents and nearly 3,200 individuals were killed. While it is believed that these numbers are on the decline as the years progress, this issue is still considered to be significant.

Distracted driving is not something that can be tied to a specific age or gender, though, it is something that many believe affects younger drivers. Of the fatal crashes linked to distractions in 2013, approximately 37 percent of those involved drivers were under the age of 27. However, anybody has the potential of having his or her attention placed elsewhere when behind the wheel.

A car accident caused because someone was distracted is often tragic for everyone involved. From fatalities to severe injuries, it is hard to escape one of these incidences without significant losses. Arizona residents who have suffered injuries or who have lost loved ones at the hands of distracted drivers may seek compensation through legal measures. If sufficient proof of negligence can be established in court, monetary relief may be granted.
