Arizona personal injury: Potential health problems from burns

Burn-related injuries can occur in a number of ways. Some may be the result of pure accidents, while others can be traced back to the negligence of other individuals. Regardless of how a personal injury of this nature is suffered, the potential health consequences can be life-altering. However, if negligence is suspected, those residing in Arizona or elsewhere may have legal recourse.

A burn is generally categorized and classified by how deep it is and how much of the body it covers. Those with severe burns are at serious risk of experiencing a number of adverse health events or even death. Common complications from significant burns include infection, scarring, low blood volume and low body temperature -- among others.

Why would such complications be something about which one might be concerned? Burn victims not only have to deal with the physical pains of the injury, but quick action must also be taken to help prevent other serious problems that can have a snowball effect. For example, if a burn is not promptly or properly treated, an infection may develop. This can lead to sepsis, shock, organ failure and -- in worst case scenarios -- fatality.

Along with all of the physical complications linked to burn injuries, victims are likely to face emotional and financial burdens as well. An individual who has suffered this type of personal injury due to another person's negligence may seek compensation for any resulting losses. In cases of fatality, a victim's family members may also take legal action. A claim may be litigated in an Arizona civil court. If negligence can be established, a burn victim or his or her surviving family members may be entitled to a judgment in his or her favor, which may include full compensation for any current and potential damages.
