Authorities in Arizona are currently investigating a boat fire that is believed responsible for injuring nine people. The incident reportedly occurred during an event for the International Jet Sports Boating Association at Lake Havasu. The personal injury one might suffer in such an accident can have life-changing effects. As such, those seriously injured may seek damages for any losses sustained as a result of this boat fire.
On Oct. 10, nine people were taken to a medical facility after the boat they were on caught fire. The current conditions of each of the victims has not been reported. The fire broke out just after 8 p.m. as the boat was leaving the shore.
At this time, it is believed that a mechanical failure may have caused the fire. Police are still looking into this incident, however. Authorities have not indicated whether charges will be filed in this case.
Injuries that are suffered in a fire can range in severity. While, thankfully, none of the injuries suffered in this incident are believed to life-threatening, it does not mean that the damages sustained by each of the victim's is minor. Burns are extremely painful, can be difficult to treat, can result in scarring or other disfigurement, lead to emotional distress and cause other medical issues -- especially since the risk of infection is relatively high. The victims in this case may be entitled to pursue personal injury claims against those believed responsible for this incident. Such claims may be litigated in an Arizona civil court, and may result in monetary judgments if negligence can be successfully established.
